During five sessions Saturday and Sunday, leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints spoke to members of the church for the 179th Semiannual General Conference.
Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, a member of the church's Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and a St. George native, caught the attention of many conference listeners Sunday afternoon with his commanding witness of the Book of Mormon, which Latter-day Saints consider to be sacred scripture, testifying of Jesus Christ along with the Bible.
"... I want it absolutely clear when I stand before the judgment bar of God that I declared to the world, in the most straightforward language I could summon, that the Book of Mormon is true, that it came forth the way Joseph (Smith) said it came forth, and was given to bring happiness and hope to the faithful in the travail of these latter days," Holland said in Sunday afternoon's message.
