Mormons have mixed views of Beck's rise2

Like conservative commentator Glenn Beck, Stephen Owens is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His in-laws traveled from Utah to Washington last weekend to join Beck's rally at the Lincoln Memorial.

Owens, however, said he has always "kind of rolled my eyes" at Beck's views.

And when the Salt Lake City lawyer read that Beck publicly questioned President Obama's "version of Christianity" the day after the rally, he was so angry that he wrote a letter to the local newspaper.

"I think it's arrogant of anyone to say whether someone is a Christian or not," said Owens, a 42-year-old Democrat. "My view of that is, if someone says, 'I follow the teachings of Jesus Christ,' then they're Christian, and who am I to say, 'No, you're not,' let alone [to] the president of our country? I was offended at that."

Owens's comments reflect the mixed opinions that members of the Mormon Church have of Beck's higher profile. Some see his rise as a sign of Mormonism going mainstream, while others worry that he is a divisive figure who does not represent Mormon values.

Beck is not the Mormon I want speaking for ME. While I appreciate his occasional mention of some of our beliefs or even the way he has weaved our doctrine into some of his rants, he has certainly made life very awkward for us Mormons, due to how hated he is by so many. He has changed a LOT over the past year or two. Back when he was the man of insight and relatable (like when he paid tribute to President Hinckley) he was a subtle voice or mormonism that created interesting conversations. However, he seems to have drank the koolaid of his own making and he is now the biggest narcissist in America. He truly thinks he is part of the plan of salvation. He thinks he shoukld and will be asked to speak in General Conference! He considers himself a solid potential candidate for President and has leaked that to social media to create the rumor. HE does this himself, I know for a fact! Look around at the Mormons who constantly defend him- they are the extremists amongst us- they are the mormons who stock pile guns and ammo, they are ready for a revolution, they are anti-government, etc... be very careful about alligning yourself with Glenn Beck. He is NOT a good missionary tool and he lacks many of the christ-like traits that make a good latter-day saint. Glenn, if you are reading this (and I know you are) CHILL. Find humility, be as concerned about your salvation as you are your brand. For the rest of us MORMONS who seek SOLID LDS role models to be proud of, I suggest everyone get behind David Archuleta and Troy Dunn! Two famous mormons we can ALL be proud of and make no apology for!

I'm not too certain how evaluate Mr Becks actions. An answer to that prayer hasn't been noticed by me yet. The beam in my eye is interfering.
