The shooting of a bishop of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Visalia, Calif., has prompted both the best and worst in people's actions, while the tragic death of young LDS parents in Calgary has elicited support for an orphaned newborn.

While members of the Mormon community mourn the loss a bishop in a senseless killing, others have gone to the Internet to spread their bigotry about Mormons.

Acknowledging some role for the anti-Mormon vitriol spread on its news website, the Visalia Times-Delta wrote a thoughtful editorial about how in times of tragedy people should show restraint. It was a call for civility.
