Q&A about the yet-to-be-built Gilbert Temple

source: azcentral.com June 23, 2010

The gleaming angel atop a planned Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints temple at Greenfield and Pecos Roads will be hard to miss.

If the town's Design Review Board approves it July 15, the golden figure perched on a 195-foot spire will make it the tallest building in Gilbert, exceeding the next tallest, the cross on a bell tower at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, by more than 50 feet.

In addition to the spire, the temple's bold columns and leaded-glass windows would make it one of Gilbert's most distinctive and attention-getting buildings.

The Republic recently asked Paul Gilbert, an attorney representing the church, to explain the idea behind the design. Here are excerpts from the conversation.

Question: Each temple has a unique design, correct?

Answer: That is an accurate statement. This temple has a special design that is not replicated anywhere else. It was designed specifically for the setting it's in, in the town of Gilbert and in Arizona.
