Anna Carlson believes love -- loving others and being loved -- is why she has lived to be 99 years old.

"I just love everybody, and for some reason they all love me," she said recently from her retirement center home near the Jordan River Temple.

And now that the one-year anniversary of her baptism passed Feb. 7 and she has finished her temple preparation classes, she has met her goal of getting to the temple. She went to the Salt Lake Temple late last month.

Her daughter, JoAnn Hanson, has been Mormon for more than 50 years, but there are no other members of Carlson's family who belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Her story begins in 1930, when at the age of 19, she went to a Catholic priest to confess her sins. She says the result did not sit well with either her or the priest. So for the next 79 years, she says, "I was a Catholic but I wasn't a Catholic."
