Mormon Life says: The team is looking good so far.

Jimmer Fredette's performance on Monday night was no fluke. BYU's 6-foot-2 junior point guard came to Tucson averaging 19.5 points and 5.4 assists this season and 25.7 points and 5.3 assists in the last three games.

Fredette, a Mormon from Glen Falls, N.Y., who has relatives near BYU, exploded for 49 points in a rout against Arizona.

Sure, this isn't your typical Arizona team, but it was still a BYU single-game record and also broke the McKale Center scoring mark of 45 set by Providence guard Eric Murdoch in 1990.

"After I hit the first few shots, the basket looked real big," Fredette told me on the bus after the game. "This is something I'll always cherish. It's the most special night of my career."

Fredette was 16-for-23 from the field, 9-for-13 from beyond the arc and what's maybe more impressive than anything else is that he still managed nine assists.

"He's playing with an unbelievable amount of confidence right now," BYU associate head coach Dave Rice said.
