It's just that time of year. Before looking forward to the new year, it is time to review the events of 2011. Many news sources are relasing their top of the year lists so we thought we would link to a few lists that might be of interest to you.

Deseret News: Top LDS Events of 2011 - A pretty thorough list here including the release of Daughters in My Kingdom, new temples, and the Church and politics.

Salt Lake Tribune: Utah's Top Faith Stories of 2011 - The LDS Church makes several appearances in this list including the top spot of "The Mormon moment".

Washington Post: 11 ways religon changed in 2011 - A super interesting list that includes the "new prominence" of the LDS Church.

Faith in Politics

For this article, I spoke with LDS politicians from the U.S., Mexico, and Mali. I found that while they all had different approaches, they were all passionate about serving their countries and making the world a better place. We may be Republican or Democrat, conservative, liberal, or somewhere in between, but as Church members, we all share common ground—love of the gospel. It was a good reminder that there is much more that unites us than divides us.

One of my favorite things about working at LDS Living is meeting new people. I’ve learned that everyone has a fascinating story to tell, if given the opportunity. With that in mind, the LDS Living editorial staff decided to grab our video camera and hit the streets just off Temple Square to talk with some of the amazing Church members who were in town for April 2011 General Conference. What resulted was the first video (and my personal favorite) in our Just Off the Square series.

What (and What Not) to Say to the Recently Divorced

I think this article epitomizes a lot of what LDS Living tries to do. We bridge a gap between secular issues, like divorce, that have a unique twist on them when presented in an LDS context but are often not addressed in a practical manner in Sunday School lessons. This article was current, easily applicable, and relevant to everyone—because even if you haven’t been divorced, you’re almost guaranteed to know someone who has.
