Church representative to address affinity fraud

A Church representative will speak on 15 February at the Fraud College, a Utah-based organization that promotes fraud awareness and education. Michael Otterson, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' (Mormon) Public Affairs managing director, will address the importance of making all people, including members of religious organizations, aware of the dangers of affinity fraud. While senior Church leaders have repeatedly warned against fraud, this is the first time a Church representative has spoken at the Fraud College.

Liz Lemon Swindle (Mother’s Day Event)
Liz Lemon Swindle began her painting career in first grade. Her first exhibitions were on the refrigerator, encouraged by her father. In the early 1980s she tutored under renowned wildlife artist, Nancy Glazier. In 1992, Liz began painting a subject matter she had long desired to approach: her faith. Her paintings are now held in corporate and private collections around the world and have been published in countless magazines and books. She is extremely prolific, and has created numerous paintings around two central themes: the life and experiences of Joseph Smith, and the life of Christ.

Annie Henrie graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from Brigham Young University in April, 2010. She has shown her work in galleries since the age of 16. Her work is now shown at Bronze Coast Gallery in Cannon Beach, OR., and Sage Creek Gallery in Santa Fe, NM.

He has risen quickly in the art world, displaying his work in many prestigious galleries throughout the west. Mike's paintings have earned him an impressive following among collectors nationwide.

Julie Rogers
Julie Rogers, known for her vibrant colors and impressionistic style, masterfully executes pastels, watercolors and oil paintings. She has won many awards including First Place at the ASCA International art show. “I love to record the simple things people do each day and capture the emotion of the moment. I love to paint light as it dances around a subject, especially the human figure. It is my desire to not only paint the physical being, but the personality and sense of soul.”

Seek My Face: Recent Artwork on Scriptural Themes exhibit

The exhibit will feature twenty-nine American professional artists, all from various backgrounds, but sharing a common religious orientation. The painters and sculptors have expressed stories from the Bible and The Book of Mormon in new, original pictures. These contemporary works share insight into subjects that depict the life and teachings of the Savior.

The Gospel Blesses My Life Exhibit

Her place in the family is forgotten as the generations pass until her name is discovered by a descendant performing family history research. This is a triumphal account of Heavenly Father’s Plan of Happiness which blesses individuals and families alike through the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Garden, written by Michael McLean and Bryce Neubert, is an allegorical oratorio of Gethsemane. According to Deseret Book, “The Garden is a musical tribute to Jesus Christ that focuses on his great love and the far-reaching consequences of his atoning sacrifice…a stirring reminder of what took place in Gethsemane and of the debt of gratitude all creation owes to the Redeemer of the World.” Performed by multi-talented Young Single Adults from the DC area, under the direction of composer and singer-songwriter Perla Antoniak.

Why I Believe: President & Sister Halsey

This is a unique fireside devotional where those who were recently baptized are introduced and welcomed as some of the newest members of the church. President Craig Halsey & Sister Anne Halsey, our keynote speakers, will share why they believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Halseys met at BYU, and are the parents of five sons. They have served in their community and have held numerous church leadership positions. Brother Halsey owns a consulting firm and is currently President of the Baltimore Maryland Stake.

Hua Xia Chorus

This celebratory/memorial concert will honor the accomplishments and contributions of Chinese composer, Maestro Huang You-Di, on his 100th birthday. He recently passed away at age 99. It will also celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Hua Xia Chorus and will include Chinese musical instruments, choral as well as solo works of Chinese art and folk songs. These musical performances are always beautiful and inspirational.

Some of the terrestrial laws that govern our bodies and influence our spirits have been recently revealed through advances in molecular biology, genetics, and neuroscience. These discoveries confirm and expand our understanding of the divine purpose of mortality. Dr. Casellas will explore these discoveries to explain the possible biological underpinnings of our probationary state. Dr. Casellas has undergraduate degrees in Music Theory, Molecular Biology & Chemistry, and a Doctorate in Molecular Immunology.
