Mormon Life says: The review is a little edgy, but the author is sincere and convincing.

I normally try to avoid hearing what other people think about a book before reviewing it—but in the case of Why I’m a Mormon, someone else’s reaction was the reason I wanted to read it. I was in a Deseret Book store in Bountiful when a man picked up a copy from the display table, noted Democratic Sen. Harry Reid was one of the 53 essayists, and said in a loud voice, “Harry Reid, huh? I wonder what he has to say for himself!” He got laughs from the other patrons. Everybody understood. What was a leader from the party of abortion and gay marriage doing in an LDS book?

From that moment, I couldn’t wait to get a copy. On the flip side, the glares I got while reading it at a Salt Lake City Beans & Brews are a story for another day.

Virginia Ashdown has observed them hanging next to one another for almost nine years.

There’s chiseled Ammon and his outstretched sword, unconquerable Captain Moroni and the husky 2,060 sons of Helaman, among others.

As a hostess in the Book of Mormon gallery room at the LDS Church’s Conference Center, Ashdown takes pleasure in seeing visitors experience the late Arnold Friberg’s 12 large-scale Book of Mormon paintings.

Mormon Life says: Don't forget to register for tickets starting tomorrow (May 19).

As far as Mormon Tabernacle Choir director Mack Wilberg is concerned, Katherine Jenkins is a renowned Welsh mezzo-soprano who has extraordinary stylistic range, having sold millions of albums worldwide while singing operatic arias, show tunes and hot popular songs with equal artistry and grace.

But American television audiences know her best as one of the current finalists on the popular TV series "Dancing with the Stars," where she is paired with Mark Ballas, a two-time "DWTS" champion.

Whether audiences know Jenkins as a singer or a dancer, Wilberg was pleased to announce Thursday morning that she will be joining the choir this summer as the featured performer for "Joy of Song," the choir's annual Pioneer Day Concert on July 20 and 21 in the LDS Church's Conference Center in downtown Salt Lake City.

Service to others is essential to living a Christian life. Anytime, anyplace, we should be looking for opportunities to lift another and lighten someone’s burden. But when it’s a collective effort — where masses of people from a variety of religious, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds come together to serve, united in a common cause — it’s amazing. I saw this happen when we lived in Atlanta, and it was gratifying to see many Mormon Helping Hands reaching out to serve their communities with their neighbors.

This Sunday, on our May 20 edition of "Mormon Times TV," we’ll show you what happened when members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in California joined with others of other faiths in a massive volunteer effort. And, in conjunction with that project, recording artists Alex Boye and Carmen Rasmusen Herbert will be in the studio with their new duet, “Have I Done Any Good?” It's not quite what you’re used to when you sing it in church on Sundays.

Dancing with the Stars has upped the ante this year by including the Empress of Soul, Gladys Knight, as a contestant on their fourteenth season. The seven-time Grammy winner is sure to wow audiences just like she has done on the stage for over 40 years. The vocalist is known for classic soul tracks like "If I Were Your Woman," "Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye)," and "Midnight Train to Georgia." In addition, she is BET royalty, receiving the Best Living Legend honoree at the 2008 BET Awards. In an in-depth interview, a jovial Mrs. Knight talked about everything from Dancing with the Stars to Mitt Romney to Tina Turner to the late, great Whitney Houston.
